Aaron grew up in and around Byron Bay in northern NSW. Not realising at the time but it was here that his early interest in surfing and skating became a gateway into photography and digital video. “I was working as a chef at night so I could surf and skate in the day, for me and my mates filming ourselves was what we did, it was just part of the fun of living near the coast.” Aaron has also spent a lot of time in the snowy mountains where he helped coordinate some of the largest ski and snowboard events in the southern hemisphere including the Coca Cola wild winter weekend, Sprite Session Australian Snowboarding Championships and the winter X – games.
Working closely with the television stations that cover these events Aaron began to see an opening into a career path that could allow him to be paid to do what he loved. In 2002 a decision was made to focus on this and he returned to university to begin studying Multi media. While at uni he produced a number of successful short movies, music film clips, documentaries and promotional DVDs. His choice to study a broader course such as multi media gave him insight into the IT industry which lead to an understanding and appreciation for interactive multimedia, an area where he could apply both video skills with IT based skills. “Interactive multimedia is so appealing to me I like the flexibility that it presents, plus I’m keen on experimenting and using new media in ways that it might not have been intentionally designed for.”
Aaron graduated from Griffith university in 2006 with a bachelor of Multi media majoring in digital video and immediately began freelancing, filming and interviewing local live bands for Public Revolution. “I love filming bands, capturing the energy of a live performance is really satisfying for me.” Some of the bands filmed include Vanlusbader, The Winnie Coopers, 8-ball Aitken, St Arthur and Elation. On top of this Aaron also took up a role as a Cold fusion web developer to further his knowledge of web design and development. Although Aaron is a keen web enthusiast his love for video and the moving image had him choking at the bit to get himself a job that would allow him more time behind the camera. In late 2007 Aaron left his web development role and became a full time director with Propvid.
“I think Propvid is a great idea for the Real Estate market and a leading new media Company. With recent advances in technology such as HDV and faster internet connections becoming a reality for more people the future looks bright for a Company like this and I’m privileged to be involved with them. Getting behind the camera on a daily basis is really what it is all about for me at the moment and I just want build on the skills I have while bringing my own creative ideas to fruition in an environment that allows me to do so.”
