We have some firm thinking around Prestige Property Videos. They should not be capped by duration. The shots should be left to flow, so the audience can see the property. Chances are it's a luxury residence worth millions.

Today’s ‘passing’ fad is to cut too fast, to speed ramp up hallways, to leap over coffee tables and reverse out of kitchens with gimbals, intercut with repetitive aerials of rooftops. People don’t navigate through a home like this. Once an establishing aerial has been set, locating the home, the suburb, and showing view corridors, the scene has been set and it is time to explore the home, in detail.

While gimbals have added cheap and easy movement, it should not be movement for movement’s sake. The property video is not a music clip nor a showpiece for a newbie Videographer, nor is it profile building for an Agent. The video has an ultimate audience of ONE person, the buyer, and for the buyer, that video can never be long enough.

Finally, lazy 17mm wide shots from the corner of the room are ‘passe’. We want to frame up front and centre, square up, and throw the depth of field. That’s film-making.

Cutaways and close-ups are also important. While the cushions might not come with the home, a shot of a plush lounge in a pool of soft afternoon light will have the audience imagining “relaxing” there.

That’s film-making. That’s what you pay us for. That’s our thinking and it underpins the way we approach and shoot a Prestige Property Video.

Our Prestige Property videos give us the time on location to do the home justice and usually comprise of a split shoot. We’ll start just before sunrise to take advantage of the magic hour and shoot till around 10am. Then we’ll break and return in the afternoon around 2pm (later if we’re in daylight savings) to take advantage of sunset and the blue zone or twilight.

Prestige Property videos work better with talent. Talent can move through a space, showing how big a room is and can work with props, adding to the coverage.

Most pieces are usually cut to music. As we’re an APRA licensed production house and pay for our music, we recommend www.extrememusic.com. Agents are also free to appear on-camera for commentary, and scripts can also be organised for voice-over.

Twilight drone filming must be carried out by our CASA-licensed platinumDRONES CREW as it is illegal for private operators to fly after sunset.

Brett Clements and his crew at platinum were responsible for filming my last fight at Melbourne’s Hisense arena late 2012 for a documentary I plan to release.
